[Pressing those kneepads into Yosuke's hands then and backing up to bounce the ball a handful of times, just giving an excited little grin, Oikawa waits patiently for Yosuke to be ready.]

[While Oikawa's busy playing with himself, Yosuke straps his designated kneepads on, over his trousers. Playing sports...stuff in uniform is gonna be foreseeably uncomfortable, but it's not like this is a real game or anything. Oikawa's just...showing him some stuff.]

Yeah, that was uh...pretty bad. At least save that up for something really dramatic.

[Bouncing the ball up higher so he can catch it instead, Oikawa holds it under one arm so he can step closer and reach to lightly arrange Yosuke's arms into a proper receiving position, once he's prepared.]

Okay, best advice I can start with is to keep your forearms straight and your thumbs flat. You won't hurt yourself by catching a hard to receive ball that way, not that I'm going to make it tough for you.

[Laughing softly and lowering his arms down now so he won't actually send it up into his chin, Oikawa backs up a little and demonstrates by bouncing the ball in place for a moment.]

See, it's a bit like this! Bend your knees a little when you move and it's easier, but you keep your shoulders straight.

Plenty of things are harder than paddleball if you take them out of context like that...

You use your hands but not for receiving, it's more your wrists and arms! Once we get into spiking, you can manhandle the ball all you want.

Think of it as a reward! You can't get a toss if the ball doesn't get received and sent to me, so receiving always comes first as the thing to learn immediately.

[Oh good, it went up, even if he had to back up a handful of steps to receive it and neatly pass it back.]

[Oh god, why's it coming back to him again? He knows precisely why, but still?! He takes a few steps in reverse, too worried about the ball to even wrap his head around what Oikawa said, and he proceeds to use his wrists in an effort to knock the ball back toward him.

But it more or less goes straight up into the air, uh.]

[He's handled worse balls before, really. Ending up with a brighter smile, Oikawa backed up a bit further - he's closer to the net now, before bringing his hands up instead.]

Ah, what a lucky ball, you've put it right into a great toss zone! Maybe this really is a good time to reward you, want to run up for it? I'll toss it, if you want!

[Yosuke fully intends on standing there idly like Daria in the opening of that show...]

[Nope, he's tossing it up at an estimate of where Yosuke could possibly jump - he doesn't have Kageyama's ability to pinpont toss, but he's still got experience and Yosuke isn't that different in height than several people he's played with.]

What's the difference as long as it gets hit? You guys really put a lot of thought into this.

It's part of the rules that make the game challenging.

[There's no harm done in the end really; Oikawa just trots after the ball to pick it up and bounce it a few times, before starting to walk to the edge of the court.]

If there's no challenge, it's not quite as fun, you know? Part of why anyone plays any kinds of games with rules, right? [Smiling, then backing up a bit to toss the ball up - he might just be doing one of his killer serves.]

[Yosuke you might want to dodge it instead. The expression on his face is 90% you don't hit this one, and part just a wide grin. He has a point to this, he really does, but scaring Yosuke a little might be fun too.

[He hasn't been taught to dodge yet. He needs more EXP first. He can't go making fancy moves when he's only managed to pop the ball up (properly) like...once.

Instead, he's gonna let it collide with his face; there WAS an effort to dodge it, but a slack jaw and arms that were lifted....but way too far apart to do anything about it. IN B4 BROKEN NOSE.
