Heeeh, I think they would give enough of a glowing recommendation about how I'm a captain. Don't sell yourself short though, you've got time to make it happen! It is a lot of hard work, but leading is about knowing each of your teammates strengths and utilizing them, not just about being at the top.
So no matter what sport you play, those are probably the best things to keep in mind.
[Flashing a peace sign again, making a more contented smile, Oikawa is going to take a bite of this apple; it tastes fine enough, at least. Nothing strange, no worms in it, no rotted bits. He's a bit hungrier than he thought and turns away slightly to just keep eating, pointedly no longer looking at those nasty cakes.]
Yup! I'll take care of everything, Tsuki-chan, don't you worry your little head.
[Flashing that peace sign - it's almost trademark - with a winky, Oikawa bounces that ball before tossing it up to bounce overhead. He'll go turn his phone up on the loudest ringer after Tsukishima has left, and probably check his phone - ah wait.]
Oh, I should get your number then, for texting purposes! It's better to have than to be lost in the weird hallways, mm?
I'll be honest, I want to trust at least the signs when they do put them up. If they didn't, people would be going out there right now looking for escape routes, right? When they're done spraying whatever in the air, I'll gladly go outside and investigate then. I don't want to get poisoned just for not listening to a sign.
[Ahahaha, at that sort of comment, Oikawa winks and sticks his tongue out, before reaching down to pull up one of his pants legs - yeah he's wearing knee pads already man, you can't out him here.]
I'm prepared! They aren't knee braces, but they will do pretty well so long as I don't slam into the floor. [So come on, play with me, play with me 8DD]
[What no don't call Iwa-chan he will beat me with a ball!! ;a;]
I sure am! I'm the captain even!
[Bouncing the ball towards her, idly watching how she moves to receive and send it back, she's good enough. Better than a handful of first years at least, and she's cute. Is this what it's like to hit jackpot? No, he has to get a date before jackpot can be called.]
Well, I think you're not too bad, you're better than some players I know from other teams. [Not his team. His team is fantastic. She's probably good at other parts of the game though, at least that is what he's thinking.]
[HE'S SO SORRY HE DIDN'T REALIZE YOU WERE QUITE A YOUNG LADY UNTIL AFTER HE SAID ALL THAT TERRIBLE STUFF. His smile is sheepish and apologetic by now, shaking his head to the question and moving to step away from the nasty cakes - Oikawa even lifts a hand as if to gently herd her from having to look at it anymore either. To the normal food they go!]
Ah, no, I'm totally uninterested. Hey, let's go see if they have any pudding cups, those are way better! Best snack, they might even have chocolate and, you know, normal food!
I'm assuming normal pests until I'm shown whatever creepy things this school could possibly have. Bugs, rats, you know? It's just easier. [IT'S JUST LESS STRESSFUL TO THINK ABOUT GIANT PLANT MONSTERS OK. Puffing a sigh and moving to stand, Oikawa is fishing out his phone to start scaling through the numbers.]
Now where is Iwa-chan, which number is it so I can text you whenever I please...
[You should join volleyball. Come play volleyball, tall kid.
Shaking his head lightly and turning Mayu around to put his hands on his shoulders, Oikawa walks him a bit further down the hall - which classroom is he supposed to be in? Who knows, Oikawa is putting him in whatever is closest. Looks like it's 1-A.]
Nooo, don't say that. It's never okay. Have some self confidence! Don't let the world use you as a doormat!
I knooow. I'll be making better posters later. Are you interested in any of them, by the way? Or are you just staring the symbols down waiting for them to make sense too?
[Since he's done fussing with other posters, Oikawa is capping his marker to curiously look at this guy; he's tall enough, he could do volleyball probably. Actually, it's with another look that he wonders if he's actually in high school..]
[Easier, but not necessarily smarter. While Oikawa might wish to play pretend, he'll consider the awful possibilities and keep quiet about it for now. At least until the truth comes out.]
You... [God, how frustrating.] ...shouldn't need to ask. [He's met someone before and found out that numbers seem to automatically update, but he hadn't thought about the abnormal amount of texts he'll probably get later.
He's also still thinking about the date that's on there too, but he doesn't bring that up.]
[He's going to get an obnoxious amount of texts at all hours, especially when they are apart. Almost chuckling about that 'shouldn't need to ask', he would be commenting about how new phones are different numbers, but his eyes are actually sliding across the date and pausing.
Ah.]
Iwa-chaaan? [No, wait, he's texting anyway, he is texting this and taking his time.]
[It could lead to a number of things, no matter what Oikawa's up to on his screen right now. He's already putting his phone on the table though, preparing himself for whatever he decides to send.
He's still not certain everything matches, Seth's phone was only one in a bunch.]
[With a mild delay, Oikawa finishes his text and gives him a bright smile - before holding up one finger and standing.]
Wait right here. I'll be right back.
[He's not waiting for the answer, he's scurrying off to the food line again. Soon enough though, Iwai's phone is going to bling and when he opens it? Yeah. There's a text from Oikawa.
O(≧∇≦)O TODAY IS YOUR BIRTHDAY! A HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (╯✧∇✧)╯ IWACHANS BIRTHDAY IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY ╰(✧∇✧╰) TODAY IS THE DAY YOU WERE BORN!! YAAAAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! ゚・✿ヾ╲(。◕‿◕。)╱✿・゚ you're my best friend and i'm proud you've made it another year! xoxoxooxoxoxooxoxoxoxxoxo ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤]
[It's hard to believe someone can go around smiling when they're trapped in this hell hole, but knowing Oikawa has worked it out, just like he had, well. He's not too surprised by the text that comes through, even if it's almost blinding.
What the hell.]
...Dumbass. [Only he'd get distracted by something like this when a) it might not even be true and b) they've been kidnapped to fuck knows where.
He can't bring himself to delete it though, instead sending back a quick text [USE THIS FOR SOMETHING USEFUL!!] to try and get his point across.
He can't believe he waited minutes of his life waiting for him to finish typing this.]
[They might be trapped and kidnapped, but he isn't about to ignore a cause for celebrating something important to him. Soon enough, Oikawa is coming back - that text has been unseen or ignored - and he is planting down a nice sized cupcake before Iwai. While he was up there, he picked up a few more water bottles; can't hurt to have some supplies while they're at it, right?]
Here we go, something for proper celebration!
[Oikawa isn't even sitting properly, he's leaning with that dumb smile and starting to hum happy birthday. At least he isn't singing?]
["At least he isn't singing"... is probably the only thing to be thankful for here, at least that's how it feels. He doesn't remember it being this close to his birthday, and he also doesn't feel like celebrating it either. The cake is probably better than the fruit he picked up to eat but at the same time...
He can't bring himself to reach out and take it.]
Oi, Oikawa. [Maybe if he stares at the cupcake long enough it'll burst into flames.]
[It just takes a lot to argue. He didn't argue about his brother leaving home even though he was adamantly against it, and thinking on it now, he realizes that it wouldn't have changed anything. Umetarou would have moved out because that is what he wanted. All the reasons were good and he had the means to be able to live on his own.
It's certain truths like that which has him say that he should just give up on something, but it's also just too much work.]
It wasn't at home, no, but if it's June here, I'm celebrating. I don't want to regret not celebrating.
[He paused his humming to answer, and just picks up where he left off while slumping into Iwai's shoulder - and pushing that cupcake closer. Ah, yes, being the annoying friend is fun.]
I'm going to regret celebrating. [But it looks like he doesn't have a choice, not while Mr Obnoxious is slumping onto him and forcing the cupcake closer.
He stares at his hand for a moment, before slapping at it.] I'll take it with us.
[He's more concerned with getting out of here than playing Happy Birthday.]
[Yelping lightly at the smack and pouting, but letting go to move away, he's gathering up the bag - yeah he stole a bag, he stole a damn bag - stuffed with waters and fruits and some wrapped sandwiches, and hefts it over his shoulder.]
Okay, okay. Well, I'm going to go stake out some sleeping quarters for us, so come to the gym storage room whenever you're done. Make sure to text me any new things~ I'll keep you updated on my end too.
[Really, he wants Iwai to come with him because finding the gym takes too freaking long alone. Oikawa may be smiling and acting cheerful, acting normal, but everything was so wrong here it bothered him deep down. His wrist itched like mad, and even with some idle glances at the tattoo that was still there, he tried to refrain from scratching it.]
[He doesn't actually answer the question, he shouldn't need to, but he does stand and hold out the cupcake for Oikawa to take. They should have paper to wrap it up in.] Put that away too, I'll have it later.
[Hopefully it won't get squashed, but if it does it's not the end of the world. He'll probably forget about it soon enough anyway.]
Alright. [He thinks over places he hasn't tried to look for yet in the meantime, though given that people keep adding stuff to the bulletin board, he might try again. First, he'll head back to the locker rooms too. Extra clothes might be good to keep with them while trying to sleep.] Don't send me stupid stuff in the meantime though, even if you're bored.
[He reaches out then, gripping his shoulder and looking him in the eye.]
I don't think leaving is an option, they're spraying outside for pests... and leaving during that seems like a baaad idea.
[He doesn't want to dash her hopes that he is certain they're too far for a simple train ride home, as much as he'd like the idea. Her expression is more than concerning though, and Oikawa ends up planting a hand on her shoulder to give her a reassuring smile.]
Things will be okay! Come on, let's go get something to eat and calm down, it's easier to think on a full stomach, right? [Come on, remember the name. He knows where she's from now, he's seen the name on the charts under manager, she's a helping manager? Learning, she looks like a first year. Hi..something. H. Y. is what he remembers, shoot.]
