[AH FIRST NAME BASIS IS THIS A JACKPOT?? NO, BUT IT SURE MAKES HIM FEEL LIKE IT IS. He couldn't contain this smile if he tried, it made his eyes really light up when she said that nickname. Bouncing it again and then swapping to light overhead passes, things she could still definitely get, he's slowly increasing how hard they would be to receive; figuring out just where her skills are.]
Heeeh, it's super good to meet you too, Yuuko-chan. Hey, you're pretty good at this! [Join my team pretty girl I'll give you lots of tosses <333]
I believe that they are, too. [Which means that is the best place to ensure that he will get some members, maybe?]
What? [Nozaki pauses as he lifts his head up towards the ceiling to think about the answer.] The principles. The connections that are made. [For someone that only exerts energy on the club, it is nice to have friends in it. Even though, said friends occasionally tire him out. He starts to make his poster -- something simple.]
Hmm.. so the people you can be with, in that kind of environment. That's a good reason! Do you like Judo as a sport, or was it mostly still just for the people you were with?
[Picking up a bright red marker, Oikawa is starting one of his own posters in the meantime.]
[Aha, so he really is a swordsman! Thoughtfully rubbing his chin, then giving a light smile, Oikawa gives a more polite bow.]
I suppose there's no sense in me trying to convince you any further then, but thank you for your time~ My name's Oikawa Tooru, and if you do need any help in setting up a Kendo club, I'll be happy to help! At least, with paperwork things. You don't really look familiar with the school in general, if you don't mind me saying..
I like the people who join in afterward. They are good friends. [He pauses between the words 'they' and 'are' like he isn't sure if he should use 'are' or 'were.' He does not know if he is going to be able to be reunited with them. But he tells himself that it will tire himself out to worry and to backburner it until later.]
[ Pretty good or just pretty? Anyway, please. Yuuko is always a jackpot. Even if she notices the glint of happiness in his eyes, she doesn't point it out. ...No, it's more than a glint... ]
Thanks! I play whenever I can.
[ Which actually means "whenever she feels like it." As far as her receives go, so far, so good, but she's sensing the rise in difficulty here... ]
Yeah, it doesn't entirely matter when they join. When they do join and you've gotten to play together, that's usually the best part. Winning is a great bonus though too.
I guess. [But Yachi sounds happy. She pays attention in class, and in volleyball. Times when she needs to pay attention, she does it well. But when she's being led around the school, somehow attention slips away completely, with the constant nagging thought that she absolutely does not want to be here.
Trying to see what Oikawa was taking note of was getting difficult and she probably shouldn't waste her time doing things the way he does. What might work better for her is the surefire way to get out of any maze: right hand touches the wall, and keep walking, you'll always find the exit. She can at least remember what floor everything's on. She can do that, right? There can't be a dozen floors, schools aren't supposed to be built that high.]
[Pretty girl and pretty good! The more he increases that little bit of difficulty, the more he's impressed and genuinely happy she's able to keep up with him.]
Ha? I've got too many years of playing this under my belt, don't compare yourself to me. You're doing great! Better than some first years I've played against, that's for sure.
[ Then comes a ball that's too fast, too strong—it bounces off her arms at a low angle away from Oikawa. She almost wants to laugh it off say she hadn't meant to do that, but all she can do is smile sheepishly. ]
[Bouncing it up...right yeah. That's how volleyball works, huh. He'll try again, popping it up at an awkward angle WITHOUT actually getting a grip on it. Ganbatte Oikawa-san...]
You say that like we're gonna get there. [But boy, does he love manhandling balls!!] Or, maybe we should have started there...
Think of it as a reward! You can't get a toss if the ball doesn't get received and sent to me, so receiving always comes first as the thing to learn immediately.
[Oh good, it went up, even if he had to back up a handful of steps to receive it and neatly pass it back.]
[Oh god, why's it coming back to him again? He knows precisely why, but still?! He takes a few steps in reverse, too worried about the ball to even wrap his head around what Oikawa said, and he proceeds to use his wrists in an effort to knock the ball back toward him.
But it more or less goes straight up into the air, uh.]
[He's handled worse balls before, really. Ending up with a brighter smile, Oikawa backed up a bit further - he's closer to the net now, before bringing his hands up instead.]
Ah, what a lucky ball, you've put it right into a great toss zone! Maybe this really is a good time to reward you, want to run up for it? I'll toss it, if you want!
A school in the Miyagi prefecture called Aoba Jousai. It's a school known for having very strong sports teams, as well as being a bit difficult to get into. Getting invited is a great thing!
[He'll just toss that ball over his head and bounce it a bit before passing it over to her when she was ready.]
